Event Details
Irina Gorbman is a contemporary, intuitive, abstract artist with a background in mechanical engineering and international relations. Her art journey began after a medical condition that required prolonged recovery. She turned to the study of art to heal herself and found that art creation was, in fact, a healing meditation.
At some point, friends and family strongly suggested that Irina submit a portfolio for an exhibit. Since childhood, Irina had dreamed about working in interior design. So, the first portfolio of artworks was submitted to the annual Architectural Digest Design Show in New York. The invitation to exhibit was received, and that became a turning point – a justification that “yes, I can call myself an artist, and the fact that I am a self-taught, outsider artist is all right.”
Join us on May 2nd from 5:30-7:30PM for an Artist Reception to welcome Irina Gorbman to the Sheen Center.

Artist's Statement
My mission is to Create the Healing Power of Art.
My art process is a meditation, where I bring higher energies onto the canvas. I paint without sketches, predetermined color palette, or my glasses. The more you look, the more you see - mountains, rivers, people, and animals that have not been intentionally painted. There is always more than meets the eye. I go with a flow, my hand picks up colors intuitively and paints in a gestural, automatic, and abstract style. When the painting is completed, I step back to meet and greet the creation.
I believe that art is a battery that can “recharge” the body, elevate the spirit, and cleanse a room. I also believe that in our technology-driven world, we need a color boost to feel more energetic and become more holistic. The colors - happy colors of the Universe that I use - help in this process of elevation. The intention of this exhibition is to generate good vibes and make the viewer feel recharged.
Art patrons note that the sensitivity of my work is similar to Mark Tobey, Edvard Munch, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, Edouard Manet and references abstract expressionism. My list of exhibitions includes Architectural Digest Design Shows in New York, The Boston International Fine Art Show, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, multiple galleries, fundraising galas for React, Inspire, Act, Tomorrow’s Women Today, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, and showings at public and private venues.
