The Gallery at the Sheen Center

Art Exhibition Opening, September 8 at 6pm

Jennie Booth introduces the Sheen Center to a new world of the unknown.

Blending neurology, physics and an artist’s imagination into her version of a Theory of Everything, her exhibition of sculpture and painting takes us where we’ve never been before and yet visit continually as is the nature of the mind.

Playing with ideas such as Boltzmann Brain Freaky Observers, Randomness and Dark Matter, Booth contemplates the mysteries of our brain. She searches for a link between the structure of our minds with its pulsating interconnectivity and the Universe. Booth explores where Planck Lengths and vibrating strings are still poked at with a tentative stick by today’s scientist-explorers.

Her sculptures of simple materials clay, paper, and plaster are built to monumental proportions yet beckon with the quietness of a Virgin Mary statue in a grotto. The mixed media acrylic paintings are like painted icons of old and glow like stained glass. They create another planet the viewer enters as they walk through the gallery. This is not an installation but a formal exhibition that creates an intimate meeting point between the unknown mind and the self, strangely familiar, worlds away.

Born in Ohio, Jennie Booth studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, graduating with a BFA and the prestigious 3rd Agnes B. Gund Award for Travel. She returned from Italy for a brief sojourn in Chicago, and it was in Chicago that Booth was first diagnosed with Bi-Polar II, and its attendant vulnerabilities she has wrestled with ever since. Booth then moved to Brooklyn’s now famous Williamsburg neighborhood, and had her first New York City Solo show at La MaMa Galleria, curated by Ellen Stewart herself. Booth has exhibited internationally, most recently at the 2015 SaO Sculpture Festival XX in Bratislava, Slovakia. She has been featured on television, radio and print, and has participated in artist residencies at Cill Rialaig, Ireland and artAmari, Crete amongst others. New York City artist Jennie Booth works in mixed-media sculpture and painting. Jennie Booth currently works in Sunset Park where she has a studio through the chashama Space Program.
