2: The Art of the Duo – Cyro Baptista & Max Pollak
Friday, April 8, 2016
Percussion star Cyro Baptista and RumbaTap creator Max Pollak have shared many stages and logged thousands of miles on the road together with Baptista's genre bending "Beat The Donkey" percussion project.
Playing drums, jumping up and down in crazy costumes and getting thousands of people dancing and singing along has certainly left its mark on Mr. Pollak who reveres Mr. Baptista as his mentor.
As visionary musical genius/deus-ex-machina and off-the-cuff humorous entertainer Mr. Baptista galvanizes pretty much every single creative effort he is part of, and Mr. Pollak tends to follow in his mentor's footsteps - but using only his feet, hands, body and voice to make the music. This is their highly anticipated first outing as a duo.
Since arriving in the U.S. from his native Brazil, performer and bandleader Cyro Baptista has emerged as one of the premier percussionists in the world, bringing his unique charm and intense rhythmic drive to countless stages including with collaborations with myriad luminaries such as Paul Simon, Herbie Hancook, John Zorn, Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Caetano Veloso, and many others.
Max Pollak, a prestigious name on the international tap and world music scene, is the only non-Cuban member of Los Munequitos de Matanzas, Cuba's famous Rumba ambassadors. Cirtics and peers worldwide acknowledge his superior musicianship and his highly individual style called "RumbaTap" - a pioneering blend of Afro-Cuban song and dance with American tap and body music.
